Hon. Dr. Sheikh Mohamed Rukara, a respected political figure in the Republic of Burundi, not only made significant contributions to governance but also left a lasting impact through his philanthropic endeavors. Born on July 27, 1955, in Buyenzi (Bujumbura), he sadly passed away in Brussels on November 29, 2019, leaving behind a legacy that is remembered with deep respect.

Apart from serving as the 1st Mediator of the Republic of Burundi, a Former Member of Parliament, and a Senator for the city of Bujumbura, Dr. Sheikh Mohamed Rukara established The Salama Foundation on August 20, 2009. This foundation reflects his commitment to humanitarian causes, aiming to promote philanthropy and responsible communication not only within Burundi but also across the Great Lakes region in Africa and the East African community.

Dr. Sheikh Mohamed Rukara's influence reached far beyond national borders. He was honored as an Officer of the Legion of Honour in France and received the prestigious Order of Leopold in Belgium, reflecting his significant impact on international relations. In addition to his political achievements, he was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa, underscoring his intellectual prowess and dedication to knowledge.
