Audience With Mr Hitimana Alimasi, Legal Representative of the A.U.I.I.

On Thursday, the 19th of October 2023, Mr. Pascal Ntamukunzi, the Legal Representative of the Salama Foundation, warmly welcomed Mr. Hitimana Alimasi, the Legal Representative of the Association Umoja Islamic Imara (A.U.I.I), in a significant audience. 

The purpose of this meeting was to deliberate on a crucial matter - the organisation of a seminar aimed at raising awareness among women who, unfortunately, compel their children, particularly underage girls, into early marriages.

The two esteemed personalities engaged in a comprehensive discussion during the meeting, recognising the urgent need to address and eradicate the persistent issue of early and forced marriages. They jointly committed to finding viable solutions, with a particular emphasis on the transformative power of education as an effective means to combat this harmful practice. 

Education, as they concurred, serves as a powerful tool to diminish the likelihood of young girls being forced into early marriages and enduring the challenges associated with becoming mothers at a very tender age, including the risk of domestic violence. Importantly, education opens doors to economic opportunities, empowering girls and fostering their independence.

The meeting concluded on a practical note, with both individuals offering a tangible recommendation to expedite the organisation of the awareness-raising seminar. This collaborative initiative aims not only to shed light on the detrimental consequences of early marriages but also to provide practical strategies and resources to empower women and protect the rights of underage girls.
